BAS Controls Technician - Commercial HVAC

Department: HB McClure - Commercial Special Projects
Location: Harrisburg, PA

JOB SUMMARY: The Building Automation Controls Technician is responsible for the design, installation, programming, and commissioning of new and retrofit HVAC control systems for commercial and light industrial facilities and buildings. This candidate must be a highly motivated self-starter and able to work within team settings or on solo projects. This job may required extended overnight travel.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the design and implementation of commercial HVAC control systems
  • Program, commission, service, troubleshoot and orientate controls installation
  • Communicate with customer to continue building relationship for service or preventative maintenance on HVAC and control systems
  • Manage project status and update project managers as required
  • Review and modify sequence of operation and wiring schematics
  • Review and modify programming changes to ensure effective and efficient performance
  • Work with internal IT, customer IT or 3rd party IT departments to accommodate project internet access
  • Work at heights greater than 10 feet and confined spaces on a frequent basis
  • Keep informed of latest HVAC Controls components and programming technologies
  • Read construction blueprints and controls drawings efficiently.
  • Interpret wiring diagrams and understand the sequence of operations for control systems.
  • Communicate effectively with the customer, jobsite foreman and other team leaders.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of various control communication protocols
  • Robust understanding of building automation controls and mechanical systems, processes and methods.
  • Fundamental knowledge of commercial and light industrial plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Leadership and effective communication.
  • Strong time management and project management abilities.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to read blueprints and job specifications
  • Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent; trade-related technical school experience is a plus.
  • Fluent communication in English (both written and verbal).
  • Minimum of 3+ years of relevant experience in the mechanical electrical industry.
  • Tridium AX, N4 certification preferred
  • Familiarity with various field concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment background checks and drug screenings.
